Brixton B at SE Regional Qualifiers 2012 Brixton B 2-11 Discusting Our first match of the day against an all-male team with lime green shirts that competed with ours for most eye-watering! It was a well-spirited game; and while the scoreline looks painful I think everyone would agree it didn’t feel like a complete whalloping! Brixton B 4-7 Queens Park Pickup We were a little inconsistent. Although we had the mismatch of more girls than them, our main undoing was changing our runners and handlers around too much. We found the flow on a few points and Dave scored some excellent catches with some genuine contortionist moves, however in the end, QPP were that little bit more focused and took the game away from us. Brixton B 3-9 Kent By match 3 we were starting to get into the flow of things and this game felt close. A couple of great grabs from sticky fingered Dave (Emery) in the end-zone and a few nice flows meant we could come out of the group games with our heads held high. Brixton B 8-3 St Albans 2 (Playoffs 26 Vs 31) In the playoffs we were in the bottom 8. The best we could do was 25th, the worst, didn’t bear thinking about. First up we had the 31 seeds. St Albans 2 also had the advantage of only 1 girl on their team, however this time we had new tactics. During the interval, we’d had a little think about how we were running things. We decided that before the game, we’d make sure that everyone knew what they were doing. So the boys (Dave, Gabriel & J-Lo) were tasked as Handlers, with Tanisha, Kate C or Sarah joining them. The awesome Monson sisters were always a cutting pair, playing horizontal stack. When either of them took a break, Kate C or Sarah took their place. These new tactics really paid dividends. All of a sudden we were confident in our knowledge of what each of us was doing. Our transitions were suddenly crisper. D to O and O to D. St Albans 2 never really had an answer to our new tactics. Final score 8 3 to BB and much jubilant celebration! Brixton 7-5 Rice Frisbees (Playoffs 26 vs 27) Despite the girls’ sex pest tactics against this group of high school lads they gave us a good game. We kept our cool though and managed to come out with the win we deserved. Brixton 6-8 Sharktopus (Playoffs 26 Vs 25 for Bowl) We didn’t realise this was the bowl playoff, but that didn’t matter. We wanted to finish as well as we could. We were well established in our tactics by this stage. We’d now won 2 games and spirits were high. Unfortunately Sharktopus wanted it that little bit more. A couple of dropped scoring passes lead to turnovers that they scored against us. Mentally, this was our toughest game. We really played hard but it didn’t quite come together for the whole game. At one stage we were 6-4 up. At the end of the day, we walked away with heads held really high. We’d taken a mixed team (5 girls, 3 guys) to an open tournament. At the beginning of the day, we just wanted to play well and enjoy ourselves. At the end of the day, we just missed out on the bowl and beat 2 teams that had a gender advantage. We weren’t bageled in any of our games. Therefore, with our results from the day, we were really on cloud 9.
